As a chocolatier and chocolate evangelist in Los Angeles, Ruth Kennison is on a mission to spread the word about where our chocolate comes from and how it gets made. She is among a select group of instructors in America teaching bean-to-bar chocolate making, and her classes and private workshops are extremely popular with professionals and recreational chefs alike.
Ruth is the resident chocolate diva at The Gourmandise School of Sweets and Savories in Santa Monica, where she leads baking and pastry courses and oversees chocolate education. She is a popular speaker at schools and events, and shares her love for chocolate at private tastings and parties. Ruth recently launched The Santa Monica Chocolate Society, a club that aims to be Southern California's premier chocolate tasting experience.
Her infatuation with chocolate began with her first job in high school at a prominent sweets shop in Boston, where she grew up. Ruth studied chocolate making at The French Pastry School and Cacao Barry’s Chocolate Academy. She also holds a certificate in professional baking. Most recently, Ruth has been traveling around the “chocolate belt” of the equator learning as much as possible about the sources of chocolate and its path to our palates. Ruth graduated from Northwestern University and now tests her latest chocolate creations on her husband, David, and son, Sebastian.
